Yanxian Zhao
A Visual Artist
Yanxian Zhao is a Chinese visual artist based in the Netherlands. Her works primarily delve into the family's ideological structures to contextualize lived realities within contemporary historical frameworks. Her methodology encompasses studies in history, memory, regional, and psychology study in the field of generational trauma. Through this approach, she aims to achieve a deeply personal exploration of the social, political, economic, technological, and communal impacts over time.
Her artistic themes revolve around trauma and legacies, love and violence, and the existential facets of life and death. Currently, she is exploring the influence of technology on long-distance diasporic family relationships in today’s super-aging society. She is aiming to transfer those aging experiences to a universal existential therapy through art.
